Edwin Deakin : ウィキペディア英語版 | Edwin Deakin
Edwin Deakin (May 21, 1838 – May 11, 1923) was a British-American artist best known for his romantic landscapes which included Spanish missions and wild areas of the state of California. His still life works are also notable. Deakin is considered one of the more obscure artists of a small group that best represent the issues of representing China Town in art. He is considered to have had an immediate impact on preservation efforts for California missions with a series of paintings of all of the structures. == Life ==
Deakin was born in Sheffield, England, on May 21, 1838. He was apprenticed at the age of 12 to a japanning business, painting landscapes and floral designs on furniture pieces, but received no formal training. By 18, he was a notable architectural landscape artist. He emigrated to the US in 1856 with his family to the city of Chicago, where his father opened a hardware store.〔 He first traveled to San Francisco in 1870, at the age of 32, and moved there the following year after losing nearly all his works and the family business in the Great Chicago fire in 1871. In California, he became a member of the Bohemian Club and died at the age of 84 in 1923 in Berkeley ten days before turning 85.〔(【引用サイトリンク】url=http://bbhgallery.com/BBH_Gallery_Monthly_Aug_09.htm#DEAKIN )〕〔(【引用サイトリンク】url=http://crockerartmuseum.org/exhibitions-collections/exhibitions/past-exhibitions/102-edwin-deakin-california-painter-of-the-picturesque )〕〔(【引用サイトリンク】url=http://www.askart.com/AskART/D/edwin_deakin/edwin_deakin.aspx?ID=9795 )〕
